The Allotment Project was set up to assist young people at risk of committing Anti Social Behaviour in the St Andrews and St Anne’s Wards of Colchester. We contacted 10 youths living on the estates and enrolled them into the Community Street Wardens’ project where they: Assist in setting up the project;Plan the allotment (i.e. Where, when and what vegetables are to be grown);Prepare the Allotment for planting;Plant vegetables;Carry out allotment maintenance;Harvest Produce.
We run sessions with the young people on weekday evenings or on a Saturday morning. The kids turn up & help out where needed.
Hopefully at the end of the season the results will be displayed at an Allotment Association competition.
